dEATroit: Brews, bites this month in the metro

January

Frost & Foam Outdoor Party

Jan. 8 – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Royal Oak Brewery – 215 E. 4th Street, Royal Oak

Join our friends at the Royal Oak Brewery for their second Frost & Foam Party of the winter season. For the special occasion, they’ll be opening up their biergarten patio. Pints of ROB’s award winning house brews will be on tap for just $3 during the event. You’ll also be one of the first to try this year’s batch of Snowdrift Winter Ale.

Food Truck Rally – Royal Oak Farmers Market

Jan. 11 – 5 to 9 p.m. – Royal Oak Farmers Market – 316 E. 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak

The Royal Oak Farmers Market is just a short stroll away from Downtown Royal Oak’s Main Street. The Food Truck Rally happens during the second Wednesday of each month, and we still get pretty excited about it. Enjoy live music and entertainment while trying out great food from the area’s most popular local food truck vendors. Oh, and the event itself to attend is free.

Hopslam Release Party

Jan. 12 – 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. – One-Eyed Betty’s, 175 W. Troy Street, Ferndale

We couldn’t put this list together without including an event hosted by our favorite, Bell’s Brewery. Bell’s is a Michigan-made beer (Kalamazoo to be exact) and they will be kicking off their Hopslam release at One-Eyed Betty’s in Ferndale. The beer will start pouring at 6 p.m. until it runs out – be sure to swing in after work so you don’t miss out. Bell’s will also have other favorites on tap: BBA Hell Hath No Furry, Smitten, One Sexy TBD, Two-Hearted Ale and Lager of the Lakes. Cheers!

Hopcat – 9th Anniversary Party

Jan 21-22 – 11 a.m. (Jan 21) to 2 a.m. (Jan 22) – Hopcat Detroit – 4265 Woodward Ave., Detroit

Happy birthday to our friends at Hopcat! Everyone is invited to celebrate with them — Special brew deals will be available as well as free crack fries. Yeah, we said FREE! (Well, with any purchase between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.) The annual Crack Fries Eating Contest will be returning too. If you’d like to get in on this, there is a $5 entry fee. The contest kicks off at 3 p.m. so you have to sign up to participate before 2:30 p.m. Contestants can sign up in advance by calling Hopcat (313-769-8828) or in person.
